Opportunities in Research
In this episode, Ola sits down with Jayne Morrish, a catalyst for research impact and community advocacy at Brock University. Jayne Morrish, a Master's degree graduate in Psychology from Brock, shares her transformative journey from student leadership to her role as a Research Impact Manager in the Office of Research Services at Brock. Exploring her time at Brock, Jayne shares about her tenure as the GSA representative for Psychology and her notable achievements, including winning the Canadian Psychological Association's Certificate of Academic Excellence in 2012. Jayne Morrish also won scholarships and awards while she was studying at Brock such as the prestigious SSHRC Joseph-Armand Bombardier CGS Master's Scholarship and the Dean of Graduate Studies Excellence Scholarship. As a dedicated staff member, Jayne's commitment to excellence was further recognized with The President’s Distinguished Staff Service Award for Outstanding Contributions in 2017 and her inclusion among Business Link Niagara's 40 Under Forty honourees. Throughout the episode, Jayne sheds light on her passion for knowledge mobilization in research and its key role in bridging academia with the broader community. She discusses various research projects done by faculty members at Brock, that might inspire students and encourage them to go into research as well as interesting insights into her time as a student at Brock, and how she became involved in research.

A New Life at Brock: Inspiring the Future
In this episode, Amanda sits down with Aishah Sonekan, a third-year Psychology Co-op student with a Minor in Business at Brock University. Aishah shares her experience as a Residence Don, a Brock University Students' Union Board of Directors member, her on-campus community engagement, and being an international student. Aishah was named the Residence Life Conference Case Study Competition winner in 2022. She shares her thoughts and feelings about this award. Aishah walks us through her journey as an international student and adjusting to Canada. She has been heavily involved with the Brock community with on-campus jobs and clubs. She also touches on how she had a small idea to create a club for future leaders at Brock and how this became a helpful club for all Brock students.

Success Takes Sacrifice
In this episode, Amanda is joined by William Gatchalian, a current MA in Applied Health Sciences in Sport Management and a 2020 Brock Sport Management graduate. William is currently the Assistant Coach for video and analytics for the Brock Men’s Basketball Team. He outlines his experience working with the team and embracing that winning feeling as the Badgers won the OUAs in 2022. William touches on his experiences with the CEBL Hamilton Honey Badgers, interning with Canada Basketball and being named one of the finalists in 2020 and 2021 for the Toronto Raptors Wayne and Theresa Embry Fellowship. He shares his new job opportunity in Winnipeg with the Winnipeg Sea Bears, a professional Canadian Basketball Team. William talks about the sacrifices he made to get to where he is today and shares valuable advice with aspiring sport management students.

In this episode, Amanda sits down with Ximena Paredes, a third-year psychology co-op student in the research stream at Brock University. Ximena is an international student from Mexico and has been awarded the International Ambassador Award for the past two years. This award recognizes international students with significant academic achievements and community involvement. Ximena has been heavily involved with the Brock community with on-campus jobs and Varsity Tennis. Ximena shares her experiences as an international student, the various supports available at her “home away from home”, as well as her journey coming to Canada and being a part of the Brock community.

How Goodman fostered one of the Top 100 Tech Companies to Watch in Canada
Liam catches up with Asad Jalib, an entrepreneur who recently graduated from the Business Administration program at Brock. Asad discusses what brought him to Goodman, his hands-on, presentation-focused courses, and gaining a problem-solving mentality through his executive positions outside the classroom. He also took advantage of Brock’s entrepreneurship opportunities like Monster Pitch, a competition in which students pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges, emulating the show Dragon’s Den. He and his business partner won the competition in 2021, securing guidance and funding to kickstart DirtMarket, which was recently named among the Top 100 Tech Companies to Watch in Canada.
